1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. Cookies remember your preferences and help us understand how visitors use our websites so we can improve them. Some things we describe here are stored in your browser's local storage rather than as cookies; they work the same way for you. By using our websites, you consent to our use of cookies as described in this policy.
2. Cookies we set
Strictly necessary (always on):
- craftr-session and craftr-session.1: keep you signed in to your Craftr account on every Craftr site. Set for craftr.com and all its subdomains when you sign in, removed when you sign out, and they last up to 400 days. The session is split over two cookies because of its size.
- theme: remembers your light or dark mode preference, per site (local storage, not a cookie).
Analytics and attribution, set by our own code:
- anon_id: a random identifier, one per site, that lets us connect what you did before signing up to your account afterwards. Two years. Deleted when you delete your account.
- popped NameCraftr: remembers for 10 minutes that a partner page was opened from a search, so it does not open again straight away.
- session_id NameCraftr: groups page views of one visit for our own analytics (local storage).
- ad_parameters NameCraftr: keeps campaign parameters from the address you arrived with (gclid, fbclid, utm_*) so we know which campaign brought you (local storage).
- nc-country-choice and the generator settings NameCraftr: your country choice and the options you set in the name generator (local storage).
Set by Google through Google Tag Manager, on every Craftr site:
- _ga and _ga_<id>: Google Analytics, tell visits apart with a random client identifier. Two years.
- _gcl_au: Google Ads conversion linking, so a sign-up can be attributed to an ad click. Three months.
Set by other services we use:
- Stellar NameCraftr: on-site experiments (which variant of a page you see). Sets its own cookies; see the Stellar privacy policy.
We do not use advertising networks that set their own cookies.
3. How we use cookies
We use cookies to a limited extent to make the tools work and to gather information for improving your experience. We also use analytics cookies to assess how people interact with our websites, so we can keep improving the content and features.
4. Accepting or rejecting cookies
You can deactivate cookies in your browser's settings and delete existing cookies at any time. More information on managing cookies is available in your browser's documentation. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies means you cannot stay signed in.
To stop receiving marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or the email preferences on your account page.
5. Third-party cookies on our websites
| Cookie | Provider | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_<id> | Google Analytics | 2 years | Distinguishes unique visitors with a randomly generated client identifier, used to calculate visitor, session and campaign data for analytics reports. |
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | 3 months | Stores the ad click that brought you here, so a later sign-up can be attributed to it. |
| Supabase (auth.craftr.com) | Supabase, our sign-in provider | Session | Used only while you sign in with Google or an email link; nothing persists on our sites beyond craftr-session. |
| Cloudflare | Cloudflare, which serves name.craftr.com | Up to 30 minutes | May set a cookie such as __cf_bm to tell people from bots. Strictly necessary; contains no personal information. |
